This week has been dubbed Take Your Cat to the Vet Week. Having a week devoted to taking your cat to the veterinarian is important for several different reasons.
- Just as it is important for people to see their doctor on a regular basis or for a dog to visit the vet periodically, cats also need regular veterinary examinations.
- Unfortunately, though statistics suggest that there are more cats kept as pets than dogs, the number of veterinary visits for cats is lower than that for dogs.
- Regular veterinary visits for your cat can help keep your cat healthy and extend your feline companion?s life, in some cases. Cats can benefit from examinations, oral care, vaccinations, blood screening and other care.
- Often, an examination by your veterinarian can uncover health problems that are not readily apparent to the average pet owner. Ear disease, eye disease, oral disease, heart murmurs and many other disease processes may be diagnosed. Many of these issues may be easily treatable if found early. Others may represent more serious disease which needs close monitoring and possibly follow-up care.
