The 2012 College World Series comes down to this: a best-of-three final matchup starting on Sunday between the Arizona Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Arizona looks for its first title since 1986 while South Carolina is going for an unprecedented third straight title in Omaha during the Field of 64 era.
Arizona is a well-rested team compared to South Carolina. The Wildcats went 5-0 through the regionals and super regionals and is currently 3-0 in Omaha. Perfection in Omaha would match South Carolina's path from last year. South Carolina, however, has had a grueling time of it over the last several days. A loss to Arkansas put them in the loser's bracket and ended a 12-game winning streak in Omaha. Due to a postponement on Wednesday, South Carolina played and won two elimination games on Thursday before forcing a decisive match with Arkansas on Friday.
Arizona will start sophomore righty Konner Wade (10-3, 4.17 ERA), who has not pitched since June 17. He threw a 4-0 complete game victory against UCLA that day. South Carolina is expected to start sophomore righty Forrest Koumas (2-2, 4.56 ERA), who has made just three starts in his 17 appearances this season.
Game time/date: 6:00 p.m. MT, Sunday, June 24, 2012
Location: TD Ameritrade Park, Omaha, Neb.
Broadcast: ESPN2/WatchESPN
