Google Offering Links To Yell, Yelp, 118.com & Other Local Search Providers

Google Maps ReviewsI can't remember when, but Google made a concession in the EU to provided easier access to other local search providers in their own search results. This came after a lot of pressure in the EU. But that may be live now.

Well, it seems like some are spotting how that might look like in the search results.

A WebmasterWorld thread has a picture of what it looks like in the search results. It shows in the web results with a section called, "Google Places Results." It also has an additional section on the right of that to "Search on: Yell, Yelp or 118.com."

Here is a picture from the thread:

Google Search With Additional Choices For Local Search Providers

We've updated the picture, provided by @cheelo.

I do not know how Yell and 118.com got on the list, I guess they are major local search providers in the UK. This came up for this user for a search on Google.co.uk for [trade in location]. I cannot replicate it.

There has been a lot of debate around monopolistic practices by Google in the local space. This box shows a pop up that reads:

Additional choices for local search:

We have added some links to other local search sites that may help you find places for your search. Clicking on them will take you straight to the results for your query on these sites.

You and I know that Google hates to link searches to another search results page. But hey, government is making them.
