Masahiro Sakurai wrote in his biweekly column on Famitsu?(via Kotaku) that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and 3DS will be devoid of a story mode and cutscenes. The creator and designer explained that many of the videos from Super Smash Bros. Brawl?s Subspace Emissary mode appeared online, ruining the experience for players.
?Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the Internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I?ve decided against having them.?
Character-specific videos that can be shared online are still a thing, says Sakurai, and Nintendo has also shared some for the game?s new characters. Sakurai went on to add that the 3DS version will include a game mode that will ?act as a separate mode from the standard versus play,? though he did not go into any greater detail.
Lastly, Sakurai also confirmed that the 3DS and Wii U versions of the new Smash Bros. game will feature different stages, and that character customization will be present. Said customization will affect character performance, though Sakurai did not go into further detail.
What are your thoughts? Yay or nay?
