Colorado football fans have been impatiently waiting to find out who will coach the Buffaloes in 2013.
CU players are growing impatient, too.
"We're all just anxious to find out," receiver Keenan Canty said. "We're just ready to get this process over with."
The Buffs have been without a head coach since Nov. 25, when Colorado fired Jon Embree after a 1-11 season and a 4-21 record over two seasons.
CU appears to be close to landing Cincinnati's Butch Jones, and a report Wednesday said Jones had accepted CU's five-year, $13.5 million offer. Jones denied that report, however.
"Everybody thought it was going to be (Jones) for sure, but everybody's just been waiting," Canty said. "Nobody really knows."
Like fans, the players are getting their news from media sources and social media.
"Right now, I'm just waiting like everybody else," defensive lineman Chidera Uzo-Diribe said.
Throughout the process, several candidates have been named, and every time one is reported, players start on their research.
"Most of the top candidates, we Google them and YouTube them and see how they run practices and stuff, just to get an idea of who they are," safety Terrell Smith said.
Ever since Jones interviewed and was offered the job in Boulder on Monday, he has been the biggest target of the players' interest.
"We've been watching some of the YouTube videos and trying to get an idea of how he coaches and how they run things in Cincinnati," Smith said.
Canty has a unique perspective on Jones. Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux is a good friend and former high school teammates of Canty's. The two have been in contact several times this week, with Canty asking his friend about Jones.
"He called me and was like, 'Man, why are you all trying to get our coach?' " Canty said. "They definitely don't want to lose him over there."
The Buffs have heard plenty of good things about Jones, but mainly just want to get somebody in the head coach's chair.
"I don't really care who comes in," Uzo-Diribe said. "I'm going to play the same way regardless. It just makes things easier for us once we know who the guy is and what he expects out of us."
In the meantime, players have gone through mandatory workouts this week and several said the team is in good spirits as they await news.
The Buffs are hoping the wait isn't much longer.
"We want to get out of limbo as soon as possible," Smith said.
