DIY Push Sticks Provide Extra Safety When Using a Table Saw

DIY Push Sticks Provide Extra Safety When Using a Table SawTable saws are great tools for DIYers, but are capable of causing a lot of damage if you're not careful. If your hands ever come within a foot of the blade of a table saw you may want to consider making push sticks from ?" plywood so you can push the last bit of a workpiece through firmly without placing your hands in the danger zone (cue Kenny Loggins).

The Family Handyman magazine's weblog shares a method for cutting two push sticks from a single sheet of ?" plywood. There are two types of push stick?a broad, flat stick for heavy boards where you need to apply extra pressure and a longer stick for narrow cuts and lighter boards. The cutout schematic can be found at the source link below.

If you're a safety-conscious professional who always knows where your hands are in relation to a saw blade you may not need these helpers, but if you're forgetful or only occasionally use power tools, the push sticks might be a great safety tool for you.
