This spring, women's soccer had the highest number of athletes to achieve a 3.5 or better GPA with 11 being honored. Softball was second with seven.
A total of 14 student-athletes had a 4.0 GPA for the spring semester: Alyssa Carter (softball), Desiree Collins (women's basketball), Caley Dow (women's basketball), Marc Herschberger (men's soccer), Taylor Huyett (baseball), Ryan Joyce (men's tennis), Nicholas Kay (men's basketball), Shayne Kovach (volleyball), Mitch McCarron (men's basketball), Bri Morley (volleyball), Nikky Sapp (volleyball), Sam Schall (women's tennis), Lauren?Schaedig (women's soccer)?and Kylee Schuler (women's cross country & track).
As a whole, Metro State's student-athletes compiled a 3.08 GPA for the spring semester and six teams had GPA's of 3.0 or higher: softball (3.35), women's basketball (3.33), women's soccer (3.28), women's tennis (3.27), men's basketball (3.21) and volleyball (3.19).
FAQ: What are the laws in the US for buying gold with federal reserve notes?
I want to know the nuts and bolts of investing in gold. I heard that there are laws that make federal reserve notes ?irredeemable? in gold. Do i have to exchange currency and buy gold in say Europe? Is this something any broker can do, or is it better to get with a specific kind of broker?
The money I have to invest is understood to be ?losable?, and I know how volatile gold is, but I want to buy now because I think its going to up quite a bit pretty soon. Im not going to invest anything I cant afford to lose.
Thanks
goldsenze.com Answer:
There is more than one way to invest in Gold (or any other precious metal).
One method is in the commodities market (also known as the futures market). There is not enough space to get into full details here. However, in simple terms, through a commodities broker, a person would buy/sell a futures contract of gold and then sell/buy that contract before maturity hoping that the price of that contract would move favorably to their position. Look for a book on futures trading at a book seller for more information.
The other method to invest in gold is to actually buy the gold. The most common method is to buy gold bullion in coins and bars that are minted by well-respected minters or governments. For example, the U.S. Mint has the American Eagle series of bullion coins. http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/?action=american_eagles They come in various sizes also, from 1/10 of an ounce to 1 ounce coins. The reason you buy bars or coins made by a mint is because those are certified to contain a certain amount of gold or other precious metal. An ingot, may or may not, be certified and then you would have to have it assayed before you sold it and that costs money.
You can buy minted bullion at several places online. One of my favorites is Bullion Direct. http://www.bulliondirect.com/index.jsp Another place is Kitco. https://online.kitco.com/ You can have these places hold your bullion for you or you can have it delivered. I personally like it delivered. There is a small thrill when you hold the gold in your hand.
Anyway, that should get you started. A small disclaimer, I buy and sell bullion through Bullion Direct, but I have no other financial interest in the company. I have purchased bullion through Kitco, but I do not have any financial interest in the company.
BTW, Federal Reserve Notes (or dollars) are legal tender. They are not redeemable in gold or silver because the currency is no longer backed by a set amount of gold or silver. Many years ago, you could walk into a bank with a silver certificate (an old form of the dollar) and ask for the silver. That is no longer the case. However, there is no law in the U.S. that prevents you from owning gold and silver at this time.
Good luck,
Edit: The suggestion below, buying the ETF IAU, is also a good way to invest in gold. Less risky than buying commodities and less expensive than buying bullion.

While you are probably familiar with Elizabeth Gilbert and her best selling book Eat, Pray, Love, it's not likely that you have heard of her great-grandmother, Margaret Yardley Potter or her 1941 cookbook At Home on the Range. If this is true, then I highly recommend you remedy the situation and get your hands on a copy of this forward-thinking cookbook, which was just released by the folks at McSweeney's.
Elizabeth Gilbert was dimly aware that her great-grandmother had written a cookbook but it wasn't until she unpacked a box of old family books that she discovered At Home on the Range. She opened the book, started reading, and didn't stop until she read it straight through. Having done almost the same thing over a period of the last several days, I can completely understand why.
More than just a charming look into days gone by, this cookbook actually taught me a thing or two about how to cook, how to entertain and how to keep a sense of humor through it all. I was most impressed by an early chapter in which Mrs. Yardley outlines how she managed to feed the inevitable clutch of guests that follow her husband to the family's seaside cottage every weekend. She quickly developed a clever combination of precooked items and store bought treats that meant she could spend at least a few hours at the beach with her guests.
There are definitely moments of nostalgic cooking in this book, with references to aspics and several recipes for eel. But there's a timelessness, too, and even a bit of forward thinking as she wanders into immigrant neighborhoods in search of ingredients and stumbles upon a reddish brown tomato pie (ahem, that's a pizza!)
Mrs. Yardley is a wonderful, entertaining writer and a keen observer. There's a touch of M.F.K. Fisher in her prose, a bit of no nonsense practicality, that offers a glimpse into someone who was perhaps a bit more complicated than the wealthy homemaker image she presents.
Bonus: Elizabeth Gilbert is donating all of her proceeds to 826 National and ScholarMatch which matches underserved but high-achieving students with donors to help cover the cost of college tuition. Yes, that's right, all of her proceeds. So if you purchase this book, you are helping to send someone to college.
Quick Facts ? Who wrote it: Margaret Yardley Potter, with a forward and recipe notes by Elizabeth Gilbert.
? Who published it: McSweeney's
? Number of recipes: Dozens and dozens, some in traditional form and others told in story form.
? Recipes for right now: POM Pickles; Strawberry Blossom (a cocktail made with fresh strawberries, gin and heavy cream); Asparagus Souffl?; Pea Vichyssoise.
? Other highlights: The illustrations from the original book, especially the blue and white endpapers; an excellent binding that lays flat when opened; her bread recipe which involves having a cigarette break while the bread rests and rises. The index is rather lame, however, as it is just a list of recipes in alphabetical order and not by ingredient.
? Who would enjoy this book? People who appreciate vintage cookbooks; people who entertain a lot; and people who want to help to send deserving kids to college.
More: ? At Home on the Range website ? Elizabeth Gilbert makes her great-grandmother's cookies in this video with with Martha Stewart and answers questions for Publisher's Weekly.

Funding is the biggest challenge in running a successful business, especially in the restaurant industry. Normally most start-up costs incur before a single penny is earned. That is why it is important for every new restaurant to make sure they are aware and understand where their funding is coming from before signing leases and purchasing furniture & d?cor.
Business Funding
Some owners may have deep pockets filled with gold and other large amounts of currency saved up. Therefore, these owners may feel they don?t need additional funding. This is a very desirable position to be in. Although these owners do not have to worry about paying interest on any business loans, these owners are in a problematic situation. Most end up spending their life savings, with no back up, on a business idea and gets lost in a competitive market.
Even if you do not need additional funding, set up a budget for your business. Identify the financial needs, i.e. drinking glasses (there is no need for the most expensive glasses, plenty will get broken). Also, make sure you confide and take advice from a trusted business advisor ? whether that is your accountant, a mentor or a fellow entrepreneur. No matter what, don?t do it all by yourself. You can easily spot a restaurant a mile away that was just a fun idea by a rich owner.
Not to mention, there are numerous business grants available to small businesses. You just have to do a little research and find them. Search for your local business link office and ask them for more information about business financing and programs that you may be eligible for.
Crowd-Funding Your Restaurant Business
As late, Crowdfunding efforts have been rising quickly. These idealistically look for people and small investors to help fund your business, ideas, and goals online. If you are opening sweet little bistro in a market town, your best option would be to set up a crowdfunding campaign. TDRS-4 mission complete; spacecraft retired from active servicePublic release date: 8-May-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]
Contact: Dewayne Washington dewayne.a.washington@nasa.gov 301-286-0040 NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center
The Tracking and Data Relay Satellite 4 (TDRS-4) recently completed almost 23 years of operations support and successfully completed end-of-mission de-orbit and decommissioning activities. TDRS-4's operational life span was well beyond its original 10-year design.
Launched on March 13, 1989, from onboard Space Shuttle Discovery, TDRS-4 operated in geosynchronous (GEO) altitude at more than 22,000 miles above the Atlantic Ocean region. As part of the spacecraft's end-of-mission activities, its orbit was raised above the congested geosynchronous orbit.
TDRS-4 was forced to retire after the loss of one of three Nickel-Cadmium (24 cell) batteries and the reduction in storage capacity for the two remaining batteries that power the satellite. Retirement for the satellite consisted of excess fuel depletion, disconnecting batteries, and powering down the Radio Frequency Transmitters and receivers so that the satellite is completely and permanently passive. This ensures the satellite will never interfere with other satellites from the radio frequency perspective.
This is the second retirement from within the fleet of TDRS. The fleet of seven remaining satellites operates through a supporting ground system and together they make up the Space Network (SN). The SN provides highly automated, user-driven services supporting customer spacecraft with tracking and data acquisition. The network supports a varied number of missions, including the International Space Station, Hubble Space Telescope, launch vehicles, and a variety of other science missions. The SN also provided primary communication support to the Space Shuttle Project.
"The Space Network spacecraft engineering and operations teams worked together very effectively to execute a practically flawless decommissioning of an incredible satellite," says Mike Rackley, SN deputy project manager at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. "TDRS-4 made great and important contributions to NASA's human spaceflight and science missions. We will certainly miss her."
A total of six first generation spacecraft were successfully placed into orbit from April 1983 through July 1995, of which four are still active. The spacecraft are approaching the end of their operational life span but they are supplemented by three, second-generation spacecraft.
Together they provide customers with global space to ground communication services.
To continue this critical lifeline, NASA has contracted Boeing to build three additional follow-on TDRS spacecraft, replenishing TDRS-1 and TDRS-4, and expanding NASA's communication services. TDRS-K is scheduled for launch in December of this year followed by TDRS-L in 2013 and TDRS-M in 2015.
The SN is managed by GSFC and its primary ground communications facility is located at the White Sands Complex in Las Cruses, NM. The Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate and the Space Communications and Navigation Program at NASA Headquarters fund NASA's Space Network.

LG revealed two Google-loaded TVs at CES, but never gave us prices or told us when these LED models might dangle their skinny bezels in stores. In briefings at Google last week, we heard that the 47-incher (47G2) and 55-incher (55G2) would sell for $1699 and $2299 respectively -- although Amazon already has them listed significantly cheaper than that. Now, to complete the jigsaw, Reuters has quoted LG exec Ro Seogho as saying that these Google TVs will ship in the US from May 21st. In the meantime, check out our hands-on from Las Vegas, because that new QWERTY-equipped Magic Motion remote is especially enticing.
Apple has released information on the security updates that were covered in the recent release of iOS 5.1.1. Microsoft has a long history of supporting bitter rivals -- even those that have long publicly disparaged the company, offering funds to Nokia, Corel and, most famously, Apple. It also has a long history of supporting e-reading. Prior to ending development last year, the company offered its Microsoft Reader software for about a decade -- first on handheld devices using Windows CE and Windows Mobile and later on desktop Windows. Those two traditions intersected yesterday as Microsoft invested in a new Nook e-book business designed to compete better against Apple and especially Amazon.com.
The biggest and most powerful app isn't always the one that works best for you?and the app that proves that point for me is Microsoft's Expression Studio 4 Web Professional?($149 direct; upgrade $79). In the small field of website editors, Adobe's Dreamweaver continues to hold the lead in its range of features and power, and Dreamweaver CS6 ($399.99; upgrade $199.00, direct, 4 stars) is the first Web editor that's fully at home in a world where cutting-edge designers need to build sites for phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. But, for me, Expression Web is still the app I choose for editing websites.
Laptop Friendly I don't design enterprise-level sites, the kind that Dreamweaver is ideal for?and that Expression Web can also build?but I want a flexible and straightforward set of tools for working with current Web technologies, and Expression Web offers exactly that. With all its strengths, Dreamweaver sometimes seems sprawling and muscle-bound, and it works well only when you give it more screen space than you have on a laptop. Expression Web feels at home on both a desktop monitor and a cramped laptop. I also like the fact that Expression Web costs less than half the price of Dreamweaver.
Expression Web 4 is one of three components in a package called Expression Studio 4 Web Professional , which also includes Expression Encoder (also available as a free download), a limited tool for encoding AVI and QuickTime video into Windows Media format, and Expression Design, a vector-graphics program that can import Photoshop assets. This review covers Expression Web 4 only.
Features I sometimes think Expression Web is Microsoft's best-kept secret. Its feature set is smaller than Dreamweaver's, but everything is easy to find and intuitively easy to use. The main editing screen, as in Dreamweaver, can display a code view or editable WYSIWYG view of your page, or it can split to show both views side by side. A separate, uneditable "snapshot" view displays the current page as it will appear in a browser. A terrific fine-tuning feature is the SuperPreview window that lets you preview your site in multiple browsers at once, including any browsers on your disk and multiple browser versions hosted at Microsoft. SuperPreview includes an optional tree-style view of the elements in your page, so you can navigate through the page elements to find the one that causes layout problems in specific browsers. This feature outclasses the similar BrowserLab in Dreamweaver.
Like Dreamweaver, Expression Web surrounds the main editing window with tabbed controls for selecting files, applying CSS styles, inserting tags and form controls, and other features. All these panels make clever use of limited screen space?for example, the Folder List tab displays a tiny thumbnail of the selected image file, making it easy to select the right asset to insert on a page. Expression Web's menu system is mostly spare and easily navigable, compared with the cascade of choices in Dreamweaver, which has 35 items on its View menu.
The first release of Expression Web 4 came out two years ago, but both Service Pack 1 and the recent Service Pack 2 add enough features and conveniences that Microsoft would have been justified in promoting each one as a new release. The latest version (like Dreamweaver) includes surprisingly flexible and intuitive IntelliSense support for jQuery scripts, making it easy to create custom-styled lightbox-style images and other modern design features.
We've seen the Motorola Droid RAZR in white, black and purple. Now it looks like Verizon's got a blue version joining the ranks as well. According to the inventory screens we've received, it's slated for release on May 18. It's the same as Droid RAZR we first reviewed back in November -- and that means it's also running Gingerbread, we're told. And we also can't help but notice that this shade of blue isn't unlike what Nokia has on the Lumia 900. Coincidence?
No word on pricing yet (or if there's a blue MAXX version on the way), and remember that none of this is official until Verizon says it is. So stay tuned.
